How To Care For Your Costume Jewellery.
Fashion jewellery is usually made of zinc and lead alloy, with silver or gold plating or filling. Imitation diamonds, crystals & pearls are also frequently used to enhance the beauty and elegance of fashion jewellery. They are very affordable, so there is no need to use expensive jewellery cleaner or polish to keep them shining. Using a sonic cleaner could even destroy the electroplated surface and make the jewellery look permanently dull.
With some simple care, the shine of fashion jewellery can, at best, last only a couple of years. Even with the best quality electroplating, they would gradually tarnish due to oxidation. Placing the fashion jewellery individually in a sealed plastic package can help slow down the oxidation process and let the shine last longer.
Here are some tips to make your fashion jewellery last longer:
1. Keep your fashion jewellery in a dry place. Placing a small pack of silica gel next to it can help absorb the extra moisture in the area.
2. Avoid wearing the same piece of fashion jewellery continuously for days, especially in hot weather. The salt in your sweat could gradually erode gold or silver plated layer on your favourite fashion necklace.
3. Don’t wear your fashion jewellery to swim or shower. And spraying perfume directly on your fashion jewellery is definitely a taboo. Chemicals could do lots of damage to your fashion jewellery.
4. Before placing it back to your jewellery box, wipe your fashion jewellery with a soft cloth to get rid of dirt and sweat.
Fashion jewellery has a shorter life span compared to jewellery with real gems and pure diamonds. Plus the price difference says it all.
