Domo arigato! The Japanese capital was picked to host the 2020 Olympics after a committee vote in Buenos Aires on Sept. 7. After hitting London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016, the Summer Olympic Games will be back in Asia in 2020, this time in Tokyo, Japan! The announcement of the result sparked inevitable scenes of jubilation among its bid team, with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe claiming he was more elated than after his own election: “I am overjoyed. I would like to share this jot together with the Japanese people back home. Tokyo’s budget bid came in at $5 billion to $6 billion, a measly cost compared to Instanbul’s $19 billion bid. It also helped Tokyo’s case that the city has already amassed $4.9 billion to help pay for the Olympic games. This will be the second time Tokyo has hosted the games, after doing so in 1964.
See you in 2020. LoL.
