The family of late Dele Giwa has fixed February 9 as the “tentative” date for the burial of their mother, Elekia Giwa. Ms. Giwa, 87, passed away at about 5 a.m. on Tuesday after a brief illness at a hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos. “The date is a tentative one but she will be buried in Edo State,” Ronke Aboaba, the last child of the deceased, said that her mother’s corpse would be moved from the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary, where they deposited her, to an undisclosed hospital where she will be kept until burial arrangements are concluded. “I feel very very bad. I lost my mum. She was a part of me. Even though I’m married, she’d been with me for the past 13 years,” Ms. Ahoaba said. Ms. Giwa is survived by five children. Her first son, Dele Giwa, a journalist, was killed by a parcel bomb in 1987 during the heady days of the military junta. Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said that he has no regrets over the various actions he took during the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970).
Mr. Obasanjo, a retired Army General, was one of the soldiers that led Nigeria’s military onslaught against Biafran soldiers leading to the eventual surrender of the Biafrans. Controversies have trailed the war with some intellectuals like foremost writer, Chinua Achebe, accusing the Nigerian troop and government of genocide against the Igbos. Mr. Obasanjo, who spoke on Friday, at a reception held in his honour by the Peoples Democratic Party, however, said all the decisions he took then were for the growth of the country and he has no regrets taking them. “I don’t have any regret over some actions or decisions taken then, and I don’t have any apology over that, because it was in the interest of all,” he said. Mr. Obasanjo said that he almost lost his private part during the war, as a shrapnel hit him on the pelvic region during the war. The former president said his late cousin who died at the age of 92 recently, was still of the conviction that his dead son was still alive and resident in the defunct Biafra Republic. He, however, used the occasion to call on all Nigerians to put the memory of the civil war behind them and concentrate on the development and growth of Nigeria as a nation.

My first sexual encounter
My first introduction to sex was rape. It was with one of our tenants. I got so close to him and saw him as an elder brother. He looked at me as someone that had been exposed because I was busty and he thought I had had a sexual experience before. So he had his way with me. Then it was not something you tell the whole world. People said we should keep quiet about it. Then they tried to make trouble with him but subsequently people said we should keep quiet about it. We had to try and manage it in our own way even though it affected me for a long time psychologically. I had to gradually get over it. I believed so much in the principle of keeping your virginity till you are married. I started showbiz from Teen TV on DBN with Chichi Okaro. Then I used to be so vocal and when we spoke about pre-marital sex and virginity, I was always so passionate about it. It was such a disadvantage and a pity for me. How sad we all have a responsibility to our children and wards. This happened a while back but it still hurts to think about or talk about and it seems to be quite rampant these days.

Hello Cossy Orjiakor, I am not surprised by your response to the open letter I addressed to you and Tonto Dikeh some days back, instead, I am greatly amazed, disappointed and at the same time feeling sorry for my dear country Nigeria, after reading the various responses from people, especially your presumed fans.
It is more disheartening to know that majority of today Nigerians, especially the youths prowling on the internet in search of innocent and vulnerable ladies to exploit, didn’t see anything bad, obscene or indecent with your actions on the internet (posting your half-nude pictures online).
