British women who have chosen to prevent pregnancy for life with a controversial new device called Essure.
Inserting Essure is quick (it takes less than ten minutes), simple, and there is apparently less risk of unpleasant side-effects than there is with more conventional contraceptives. But it comes with one major drawback for women. Unlike traditional contraception and sterilisation, which can sometimes be successfully reversed, Essure is intended to be completely permanent.
According to a user she would recommend it to anyone because it gives you freedom of mind. During the procedure, in which the woman remains fully conscious, a doctor inserts a tiny camera through the cervix, the muscular ring at the entrance to the womb. This allows him or her to see the woman's internal organs on a video screen. This image is then used to guide other tools up to the fallopian tubes so a tiny, coiled spring containing a length of plastic fibre can be inserted into each one.When the instrument is withdrawn, the spring uncoils. The plastic fibre then causes painless irritation that results in the formation of scar tissue, effectively blocking the fallopian tube. While alot of people are for it alot are against it and has been made available in the US since 2002 but once done cant be reversed. I feel its something thats good for Nigerian women because we are the ones that are often meant to bear the brunt of an unwanted Pregnant and also contraception with the man having nothing to do with it. Have a friend who is expecting her 5th child unplanned for where the the birth control used on her failed, this would be her 5th Cesarean How many Nigerian men would like to get sterilized.............not many. My husband is willing to go for it because birth control is for the two of us and not just for the woman. But not everyone is that lucky i think it should be introduced in Nigeria as well. Ladies would you agree to get sterilized when you are through having babies.
