Your Child and Sex 34–LIFE IS GOOD (8-12years)
The quest to rid our world of child sexual abuse is one we must all come together to make happen because we can no longer stand aside and watch things happen as if we are powerless. If you fail to act as a parent you would have failed your children and that is why you can no longer act as if you are ignorant of what is happening.
Testimonies are already streaming in from families who have started making use of the basic sexuality education kit but we need to go beyond our biological children to forming children clubs that can take responsibility for other people’s children. We started looking at the 3 faces of low self-esteem that you can observe in a child who has been sexually molested yesterday and so far we have covered the rebel and the impostor.
The 3rd face is the THE LOSER–do you have a pre-teen or teenager who acts helpless and unable to cope with the world and waits for someone to come to the rescue. Uses self-pity or indifference as a shield against fear of taking responsibility for changing his or her life. Looks constantly to others for guidance, which can lead to such problems as lacking assertiveness skills, under-achievement, and excessive reliance on others in relationships. This child jumps in and out of all sorts of relationships because he/she needs someone outside him/herself to determine his identity and that leads to further abuse. How many children have suffered in the hands of mentors, comedians and musicians whom they felt drawn towards for mentorship only to be messed up further unfortunately he/she is willing to endure the abuse as long as it makes them feel wanted. You can’t fail to inspire your child and create a positive sense of self-worth in your child as a parent so mind the words you use on them when you are angry and how to unconsciously treat them. What are the effects of low self-esteem?
