Jackie Chan Calls The US, The Most Corrupt Country In The World.
Action star Jackie Chan incited a flurry of online backlash after declaring the United States to be the "most corrupt in the world" during an appearance on a Chinese talk show. "What I can see is our country is continuously making progress and learning," Chan said of China, per a translation of the interview published by Ministry of Tofu. "If you talk about corruption, the entire world, America, has no corruption?"
When the show's host asked Chan about his statement, Chan continued thus, according to a Huffington Post translation of the interview: "Where does the Great [Depression] come from? It's precisely from the world, the United States, that it started.“Jackie Chan Deeply Disappointed Me,” read the headline on one Chinese-language blog. The blogger questioned whether the actor truly meant his words or whether they were intended to placate authorities in the fast-growing, movie-loving mainland market. “It’s all his own decision and we have to respect it,” the blogger wrote. “But everything has its limits and it’s not good to go too far.”
Others are calling for boycotts of his movies and of a concert next month planned at Beijing’s “Bird’s Nest” National Stadium. “From now on, boycott any movie with Jackie Chan involved,” said Bei Feng, a prominent blogger. I think his words have been taken out of context due to the translation of Chinese to English.
