Many of us kiss our children on the lips.
This is not right as you should restrict your kiss to the cheek because the predator starts from the lips so it is easy to abuse a child who is used to being kissed on the lips). This would also help you to teach your child what is right when there is a kissing scene in a movie between unmarried people. Penis and vagina must be properly pronounced. It is not ‘kokoro, jongbojongbo, pee pee, kini e, wee-wee etc). A 5year old was being molested by her uncle and she reported to her mum as ‘Uncle is using his nail on my bumbum’ her mum laughed about it and she was raped and molested for 9 years. Teaching age appropriate sexuality education to this age range requires a lot of creativity because like we rightly mentioned they have a short attention span and you must never be afraid to call the private parts by their proper names because many children are unable to report appropriately because if you are not used to talking them about sexuality issues they may not be able to report sexual abuse.
A 2 year old died in 2008 because her tummy kept protruding and no one could diagnose what the problem was until she died and autopsy revealed she died as a result of accumulation of semen she had been made to swallow by the 21 year old guy in the compound they lived. We don’t know the damage we do to our children when we fail to teach what is right. You need to repeat the songs till your child assimilates and becomes a part of him or her however you must be very sensitive by asking your children innocent questions like ‘Did anyone touch your penis and asked you not to tell mummy?  There are other stories and games for this age range that I can’t capture here that you can get in my family friendly sexuality education kit for 18 months-18years however the most important thing here is the need to empower your child with the right information to checkmate the predator.
