A husband died when he stormed out of his car on the M25 and was hit by a lorry after a blazing row with his wife. Florence Olokun-Ola had pulled over on what she and her husband Nahinmu Okafor Nicholas both thought was the hard shoulder, not realising it was a live lane because of roadworks. Moments later the 53-year-old man was knocked down and killed by a bread lorry, as he tried to thumb a lift for the onward journey to Heathrow airport, on the side of the motorway.

Police enforcing Islamic law in the city of Kano publicly destroyed some 240,000 bottles of beer on Wednesday, the latest move in a wider crackdown on behaviour deemed “immoral” in the area.
The banned booze had been confiscated from trucks coming into the city in recent weeks, said officials from the Hisbah, the patrol tasked with enforcing the strict Islamic law, known as sharia. Kano’s Hisbah chief Aminu Daurawa said at the bottle-breaking ceremony he had “the ardent hope this will bring an end to the consumption of such prohibited substances”.

A gunman who uploaded a rap video onto YouTube boasting about trying to murder a rival with a ‘spray and pray’ machine gun was jailed for 22 years today. Kayode Oshin, 21, attempted to assassinate Yassin Zouaiou with a Mac 10 in a feud over drugs and money in Hounslow, west London, after being enticed into a world of gang culture and crime’, a court heard. Mr Zouaiou survived when the gun jammed - but a single bullet was fired, hitting his brother Mohammed Ali Subhani in the neck.

A Makurdi High Court on Tuesday sentenced, Jacob Atongo, a 100-level sociology student of Benue State University, to death by hanging for armed robbery. News Agency of Nigeria reports that Justice Adam Onum held that he was satisfied with the confession of the accused to the charges and therefore found him guilty. Onum sentenced the accused to death by hanging, insisting that the sentence prescribed under the law for the offence must be followed.

CBN To Start Printing Paper Notes In 2014, Dumps Polymer.

 The Central Bank of Nigeria has said it will  start printing the naira in paper notes in 2014. It signed a deal in 2006 with Australia’s Securency International to print lower more-circulated units of the naira in polymer, while higher denominations were kept in paper form. But six years after and following allegations that the manufacturer had bribed foreign officials to secure contracts, including in Nigeria, the CBN said it was being forced to reverse the policy. A report by AFP on Tuesday quoted the spokesman for the CBN, Mr. Ugochukwu Okoroafor, as saying, “Polymer has been on a test run since 2007.

Two Britons Arrested By Anti Terror Police In Kenya.

The Foreign Office is investigating reports that two British citizens have been arrested by anti-terror police in Kenya. Sky News sources believe one of the suspects was from Britain and that the pair may have been carrying hand grenades. They were detained in Diani, a beach resort on the country's south coast. A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We're looking into reports of two British nationals detained in Kenya. "We stand ready to offer consular assistance." The reason for the arrests was not immediately clear.

STRANGE WORLD - Parents Charged With Murder For Forcing Daughter To Do Sports.

The parents of a 10-year-old girl have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly forcing her to practise too much sport. Prosecutors claim the girl was made to swim continuously in a dam near Bloemfontein in South Africa while her mother and father watched from the sidelines. When the girl became tired, she was reportedly assaulted and forced to carry on. The girl is now in foster care.
