Your Child and Sex 32–LIFE IS GOOD(8-12years)
Praise, my problem with self esteem started at home because we had aunties and helps in the house who were bringing in all kinds of blue films (pornography). My first exposure was at 9 and the moment I saw the first one something switched off in me. There were magazines they were hiding that I would secretly read and sometimes their boyfriends sneaked into the house to have sex with them and I was always peeping.
If my memory hasn’t failed me I could faintly remember peeping and seeing my father doing stuff wt our family nurse as well so I was exposed to all kinds of evil that I concluded good sex is the only way to prove my manhood. I was sexually abused as well but I was ready for the abuse cos of my exposure.
My aunt’s friends who was about 13years older started with me and it continued till I was 14 by which time I had lost control. I can’t even talk about my ordeal with student teachers in my school. Parents should learn to become good role models and be sensitive to what goes on in their home. I am so protective of my family now becos the memories still affect me and I hurt each time I remember

The final determinant of your child’s self-esteem is societal and media expectations. Infact what we celebrate as success could go a long way in affecting your child’s esteem so early enough you have to equip your child with values that takes their eyes off material acquisition or a particular mode of dressing to feel among. Tell them everyone that led a generation stood out from the crowd and determined what every other person does. Repeat the power of one for this age ‘That everyone is doing/wearing it doesn’t make it right; that you alone are doing it doesn’t make it wrong; all you need do is stand out’
