Prof. Attahiru Jega
The Independent National Electoral Commission said that it had put in place security measures to protect members of the National Youth Service Corps and other ad hoc staff that would be deployed for the 2015 general elections. The commission stated that a lot was also being done to address logistic problems before the next general elections. INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said the commission had met with the NYSC management to compile the addresses of all NYSC quarters in order to guard against a repeat of the 2011 post-electoral violence during which some corps members were killed in Bauchi State.Jega recalled that the corps members deployed for the 2011 elections were attacked in their various quarters. He therefore assured them that the commission “will be providing security to the NYSC camps before and after elections, and adequate security will be provided for the ad hoc staff that will be deployed during the periods.”A little too late and we do not believe him, the perpetrators have not been brought to book till today. The lsit of NYSC members killed are Teidi Tosin Olawale (from Osun State, BSc Computer Science); Nkwazema Anslem Chukwunonyerem (Imo State, HND Electrical Electronic Engineering), Okpokiri Obinna Michael (Abia State, BSc Environmental Management), Adowei Elliot (Bayelsa State, BSc Computer Science) and Adewunmi Seun Paul (Ekiti State, BSc, Social Sciences), Adeniji Kehinde Jehleel (Osun State, BSc Banking & Finance), Gbenjo Ebenezer Ayotunde (Osun State, BSc, Education Economics), Ukeoma Ikechukwu Chibuzor (Imo State, BSc Medical Microbiology) and Akonyi Ibrahim Sule (Kogi State, HND Business Administration). No matter the amount of money offered to the NYSC members next year i would advise them to stay away from Election wahala. Enough of the bloodletting. Punch News.
