Best-selling US author Tom Clancy has died at the age of 66, his publisher Penguin has confirmed. Clancy wrote a string of best-selling spy and military thrillers. His 17th novel, Command Authority, is due out in December. Several of his books featuring CIA analyst Jack Ryan have been adapted into successful Hollywood films. Although most of his writing involved fictionalized accounts of the aftermath of the Cold War, Clancy has also penned a slew of nonfiction titles, including his "Guided Tours" inside nuclear warships and Air Force combat wings. In addition to his literary ventures, Clancy co-founded Red Storm Entertainment, a video game developer that created games mostly based on the plots of his books, such as "Rainbow Six." He would be greatly missed.

The Special Adviser to the President on Nigeria Delta and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Committee, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, has directed the withdrawal of six students being sponsored under the amnesty programme at the Peoples Friendship University over a violent attack on the Nigerian Mission in Russia on Monday. It was stated that Kuku took the decision to withdraw the scholarship of the affected students after realising that the attack on the embassy was unprovoked and the reason for the attack untrue.

Yobe State Attack - Survivors Narrate How They Escaped Through The Window.

Some of the survivors of last Saturday’s midnight Attack(Read Here) on the students of the College of Agriculture, Gujba, Yobe State, which about 70 students were killed, have narrated how they escaped death by the whiskers, jumping through the window when the gunmen stormed the hostel. The survivors, who are now receiving medical treatment at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, following injuries received during the attack told journalist yesterday that the gunmen, who were clad in military camouflage stormed the school in a commando style and opened fire on them.

$1 Million Tossed From Plane In Bolivia.

Bolivian officials say they've found $1 million in a bag tossed from an airplane. Government Minister Carlos Romero said anti-drug police spotted a man who was signalling to a low-flying plane at a clandestine landing strip. As the plane swooped low, a bag filled with money was tossed out. Romero said police arrested three people and seized two vehicles, a rifle and an automatic weapon during Sunday's operating in Tigre, a town in Santa Cruz state. The plane was not identified, and escaped. He says the operation foiled plans to create a drug factory. Bolivian officials defend use of coca as a traditional stimulant, but try to prosecute those who try to turn it into cocaine and trade in it.

Nigerian Students In Russia Trash Nigerian Embassy Moscow Over Grants.

Trouble erupted at the embassy on Malaya Nikitskaya Street following a hearing for the students over their financial problems, according to a police source. Furniture was smashed in the reception room, after which the students reportedly threatened to damage the embassy's other rooms. Last year, Nigerian students beat up an embassy representative over non-payment of grants. The 16 suspects were removed from the embassy building at the request of Nigerian staff, Russia's interior ministry told local media. All of them are enrolled at colleges of higher education in Russia, it added. Other African students in Russia have protested in the past over their home countries' failure to pay their grants.

Women who drive risk damaging their ovaries and producing children with clinical problems, according to a conservative Saudi cleric. The comment, made by Sheikh Saleh al-Lohaidan, came as activists step up their campaign for women in Saudi Arabia to be allowed to drive. Women are being called upon to defy the ban and drive on 26 October.The ban on women drivers, while informal, is enforced by Saudi police through fines and arrests.

Few weeks after 13-year-old Daniel Oikhena was crowned a hero for beating airport security officials in Benin to hide in a tyre compartment of a Lagos-bound Arik plane, the Airport Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested three teenagers for alleged illegal attempt to board some international flights in Lagos. The trio of Lateef Popoola, 13; Amadi Joshua, 14; and Ukpabio Onyedikachi, 14, were arrested at different times at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.
